Trophy Rainbows Caught Daily.

The Naknek River is home to some of the biggest non-anadromous wild Rainbow Trout in the world. When you fish the ‘Nak with us, you have a legitimate shot at a trophy caliber wild rainbow trout, every second you have a fly in the water. 30”+ Rainbows are caught here, daily. We also offer fly out fishing to incredible walk & wade fisheries around Bristol Bay, targeting Leopard Rainbows, Arctic Char, Dolly Varden, and Grayling.

Our Compound

Comprised of the Main House, Guest Duplex, Employee Quarters, & “The Hanger”. We are off the road system, only accessible by boat & float plane. Off the road system means off the power grid, so our camp runs on a mix of generator and solar power. A true Alaskan Fish Camp experience!

The Main House

Unique in history and location, the Main House dates back to the early days of fishing & hunting exploration in Bristol Bay. Once a caribou herder’s cabin and later a commercial fisherman & shipbuilder’s private retreat, we’re proud to keep this location’s strong sporting heritage alive!

Guest Duplex

Where our guests reside while in camp. 2 clean, modern rooms each equipped with 2 full beds, full bathroom, propane heater, and mini fridge. All the necessary needs and comforts, plus ample space and storage for your gear.

Top-Notch Guides

Our guides are professional, knowledgeable, eco & fish friendly, experts of the trade with vast experience on the Naknek and in the Bristol Bay Region at large. We fish a 1:1 or 2:1 guide, client ratio. We’ve made conscious decisions to protect a precious resource by staying small, working hard, and being respectful stewards. We’ve played the high dollar lodge game and prefer to fish with people like us, who really appreciate the fish, the camaraderie, and the experience as a whole. We truly care about each one of our guest’s experiences because, well, it’s our name and reputation. This is our livelihood and we take that seriously.

We offer fly outs “off the beaten path” to incredible walk & wade fisheries around the Bristol Bay Region. We DO NOT up charge for fly outs! The cost of the fly out trip is simply an additional expense that is paid directly to the charter company. If we don’t fly, you don’t pay! Simple as that. You won’t find this at the bigger lodges, where you pay up front for fly out fishing. Heavily dependent on weather, you’re often paying fly out rates to fish the home river, when planes are grounded. That’s not the case with us. You pay the base price up front, then if we are able to fly out, you pay an additional charge directly to the charter company after the fact. On our fly outs we target leopard rainbows, arctic char, dolly varden, and grayling.

Fly Out Adventures!

This is a unique, integral, and exciting part of what we do! Through our fly out adventures, we are able to provide an “up close and personal” experience with coastal Brown Bears as they fish for salmon in preparation for winter. We’ll fish amongst them (not too close) and watch them fish, eat, and interact with each other. Truly a breathtaking experience!

Bear Viewing

On the Naknek, we mainly fish with 7 & 8 wt, 2 handed rods, lined with Skagit style shooting heads and sink tips. We also fish 7 & 8 weight single hand rods with sink tip lines.

When fishing the ‘Nak we employ a technique known as ‘swinging’, where we cast into the current at an angle and allow our fly to “swing” naturally through the water at or close to the speed of the current. This technique is best known to salmon & steelhead fisherman and we do it just the same, casting, swinging, and stepping. Covering water in search of the next grab.

Swing The Fly

“I’ve been fortunate to guide fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska for 10 years. Through the beginning of my career I worked for various lodges around the Bristol Bay Region. Over the last 5 years I’ve been running my own operation, Hammond Outdoors Alaska Camp.

I grew up fishing for Brook Trout and Landlocked Atlantic Salmon in the Rangeley Lakes Region of Maine. My father, a long time guide and sporting camps owner, put a fly rod in my hand at a very early age. Since being introduced to the world of 2 handed rods and spey casting my focus has been on swinging flies and little else. I enjoy teaching spey casting near as much as I enjoy watching experienced casters. The Naknek, our home water in Alaska, is a great place to learn spey for the first time or hone existing skills, all while having legitimate shots at trophy rainbow trout, daily.”
